My art reflects my lifelong interest in plant life, in particular tropical plants. I have had no artistic training and seek only to capture some of the infinite elegance and drama of color and form which abound in nature. I do not attempt any artistic style but try to reproduce what I see as precisely as possible. Elements which fascinate me for their unexpected charm become the focal point around which I build a picture. I grow a small number of tropicals, particularly bromeliads, and I am the steward of the bromeliad collection at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, University of Michigan, so there is always an abundance of material to draw upon. My medium of choice is colored pencils, which provide great accuracy, but I use other media upon occasion.
